i figured i'd add some africa pictures for the few people that still come to my xanga. warning: i had no access to any sort of hair styling product in africa so i look pretty bad in most of these pictures.
monday may 30th

tuesday may 31st
after flying all night, a small group of us ate lunch in a cute lil pizza place in the heathrow airport in london.
i sat next to kevin on the way from london to entebbe. hes an awesome guy
wednesday june 1st
we got to the entebbe international airport at 4 am uganda time.
after lots and lots of flying, we finally get to uganda.
we then drove several hours from entebbe to jinja. this is the group right before lunch in the jinja church of christ.
we got about 20 minutes to run into our hotel and shower which none of us had done since sunday or monday.
we went to the source of the nile where we had a cultural lesson and games.

we then went down to the actual river where there was a lot of rock skipping
then this guy came up with a boat and for a $1.50 we got a 30 minute boat ride in the nile. there was a hole in the boat so lots of water kept running in, it was creepy.
the boys played on this rock thing on an island in the middle of the river.
thursday june 2nd
nile rafting day!!
the dream team: ME, jeremy, kevin, tyler, jackson, kirby and carrie. carrie and tyler got scared after our boat had some seriously bad flips so they switched to team gay and we got tyler norton and david. go me for being the only girl to stick to the dream team.

best part of the day was after rafting, jessica got baptized. i like cried, i was soo proud.
friday june 3rd
equator! we drove to mbarara and stopped at the equator on the way.
saturday june 4th
language lessons.
getting served my first taste of local food.
since we had to eat with our hands most everywhere we went, we also had to eat with our hands at lunch. we were all grossing out. the beans, rice, cabbage and meat were the only things i liked.
we had a scavenger hunt in town followed by basketball and other sorts of fun at the fouts' house.
we ate dinner by last names. me, katie, gaynor and aubrey ate mexican food at the gage's. after dinner, we played pass the pigs.
sunday june 5th
first day in the villages. carrie, amanda and i went to a 5 hour church service in Nyakinengo. they pulled us up, put grass skirts on us and made us dance in front of the church.

monday june 6th
village day. the day started with a prayer at richard's house.
we got followed around all day and prayed more than i've ever prayed in my life. it was awesome tho. we were the last group to get back.

games with the MCC youth. i brought these plants i bought and we did crafts with the girls.

friday june 10th
safari in the morning. we woke up at 4 am and all we saw that morning was female lions, kob and elephants. oh and 1 monkey
hippo boat ride. possibly the worst boat ride ever. we played spades the whole time.

we went out for an evening safari and after a lot of pictures of weird faces we got 5 feet away from this bad boy. go wes for getting us closer than anyone else. i will never forget these eyes.
that night, we had dinner and then the hotel had these people come out and dance. jackson was the first one to get up and dance with them. possibly the most hilarious thing ever.
saturday june 11th
we went on a morning safari. only like half of us (if even that)actually got out of bed to go on this ride cuz we had to be in the lobby of the hotel by 6:30 am. it was craziness. we got to watch the sunrise. it was beautiful.
the only thing we saw this morning was elephants. we watched them for a really long time. there was a huge heard of them. arent they beautiful?
this is the first pool i swam in this summer. pretty friggin cool huh? we had an awesome time. played fun games. i did a lot of jumping into the deep end. jackson jeremy and i were doing the dumbest stuff.
right before we left, we took a group picture in front of the elephant in front of our hotel.
on the way back, there were random monkeys on the side of the rode. we fed them bananas.
sunday june 12th
town church day. i felt insanely sick this morning so im like not in any pictures. in fact, i stood outside of the church the whole time cuz there was no air in there. there was like 1 fan and no windows. it was the worst.
we did a skit about helping people instead of talking bad about them. tyler was the drunk. it was aweome.
group prayer at town church. best part about this day was the guy who ran the source internet cafe prayed over me. it was really sweet.
monday june 13th
MUDDING!!! we got to mud a house. it was awesome. brennan and i spent most of our time in the mudpit stomping the mud.
this is the group that mudded the house. we didnt get to finish because they didnt buy the best materials so the house kept falling apart. it will eventually be all together but the weight of the wet mud was too heavy for the sticks to hold up.
our feet were a little dirty after all that stomping!
that night we celebrated charolette's birthday. we had cake (with trick candles of course) and we bought her a live chicken!
tuesday june 14th
we woke up early and said our last good byes to the misisonary wives and children. we drove to kampala where we did some craft shopping. then we went to our hotels. that night, we had dinner and our last devo together. it was really depressing. jackson fell and made a fool out of himself. it was pretty dang funny.
wednesday june 15th
we once again woke up early and drove to the airport. loaded onto the plane at like 9 am. the pressure tank wasnt working so we sat in the plane for 2 hours cuz the plane wouldnt start. i had a lot of time to reflect and i realized that my mission trip was really over. i almost cried. we arrived in london and went on a tour and then went to planet hollywood. we got to the airport at like midnight and i slept on some benches.
thursday june 16th
i woke up really early in the morning. we got on our plane. switched seats around since the plane was mostly empty. i slept part of the way. then after about 10 hours of flying. i was home. i cried. i want to go back now |
